DESCRIPTORS FOR ORGANIZATION

The following list of descriptors is adapted from the Six Trait Analytic Writing Model rubric for organization. I developed the list for my students so that they would have an easy reference for how writers develop organization.

A writer should do the following:

bulletUse an inviting lead that "hooks" the reader
bulletPlace supporting details so that they fit
bulletUse logical and effective structure, order, and sequence
bulletGive information at just the right moment
bulletUse smooth transitions to help the ideas flow together
bulletUse a conclusion that ties everything together
bulletUse a conclusion that gives the reader a sense of resolution
bulletUse organization that enhances the central idea
bulletUse organization that is graceful
