SIX TRAIT
ANALYTIC WRITING MODEL
GENERAL INFORMATION

You are probably here because you have some questions about the Six Trait Model. Almost all of the links here are to the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory. I received my training at one of their institutes. I have found wonderful, useful information at these links, and I am sure you will as well. Don't be surprised when you find some of these links on some of the other pages at KIM'S KORNER for TEACHER TALK.

There are also links here to other pages at KIM'S KORNER for TEACHER TALK. They relate to some of the topics listed here so I included them even though you may have already visited them through another link.

NWRELI would like to thank the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory for allowing me share my Six Trait materials, both on the internet and in print. I would also like to thank them for including a link to KIM'S KORNER for TEACHER TALK on their Related Links page. (A page they no longer maintain.)

When you visit the pages at NWREL, you will see that they refer to the 6+1 traits.  They have added the trait of presentation, which is the way the writing looks on the paper.

bulletIf you haven't had any training in the Six Trait Model, I strongly suggest it. I feel that my pages are helpful, but nothing can make up for actual training. NWREL will provide you with so many materials you will be overwhelmed at first. They will also go over how to rate papers according to the traits and give you actual practice. If your district doesn't have a trainer, check into attending one of NWREL's institutes.
